Beverly welcomed all to the meeting.
As a follow up to the last meeting and discussion involving the statewide disaster plan, numerous attempts were made to Kentucky EMA, but due to the multiple recent hurricanes, no contact was made. (Contact names and addresses are noted at the end of this report.)
Discussion regarding the use of the air-to-air frequency. It is being used more, but not consistently. Please encourage all to use (a 10 mile out call), especially in know areas of multiple air medical bases. We are still having problems with multiple aircraft showing up at scenes and hospitals. Also had a brief discussion regarding a common statewide frequency for all emergency responders (such as frequencies in Indiana and Tennessee). Randy Wiggers (LifeNet) will draft a letter to the state air ambulance sub committee to encourage the use of a statewide frequency.
Randy also is working on a standardized LZ training program that any air medical services can use. Randy would like a copy of each service’s LZ presentation so he can start on a rough draft. Contact Randy with any questions (rwiggers@airmethods.com).
U of K pad will be closed for the next eight weeks. EMS will have to transport you to the hospital. On game days, the pad is supposed to be opened. Just be aware of debris!
Discussion on potential safety classes for the air medical conference:
Wire Safety (Kentucky Utilities)
Types of Stressors / How to control
Ambulance Safety
Modified CRM
No other issues / concerns.
Next meeting will be on November 21 at Nelson Co. EMS at 6 p.m.
