Beverly welcomed and thanked everyone for coming. Interim officers Marc Manley and Linda Minton were not present due to business obligations.
The minutes from the May 16th meeting were posted on the website and distributed to the members in attendance. No corrections were made.
Marc faxed a copy of Florida’s “Natural or Manmade Disaster Response Plan” to the meeting. A copy was distributed to the members with favorable discussion. Members would like to pursue a similar plan for Kentucky. Questions arose concerning possible Homeland Security, FEMA or state monies when this plan is activated. Beverly will contact Kentucky EMA to see if the air medical services are included in any current disaster plans and if any monies are available. A copy of Florida’s disaster plan will be sent to all program directors for review with their crews. Discussion of this plan will take place at the September meeting.
Reminder of all pilots to notify STATCARE communications center at least 10 minutes prior to their arrival of the U of L pad. Also, pilots need to stay with their aircraft in case they need to relocate. A ten minute call is also required at the U.K. pad(s).
The usage of the air to air frequency (123.025) going to / leaving scenes and at remote pads was discussed. Please try to call at least once (10 miles out) on 123.025 to alert any aircraft in the area. It was also suggested to use this frequency when arriving or lifting off at remote pads (not controlled by a dedicated communications center). Security at some hospitals is not too reliable, so try using the frequency as a safeguard. Also, services are still calling multiple aircraft to one scene (recently 5 aircraft for 2 minor injured) without notifying each service. We have got to continue educating our customers about this dangerous practice. (Pennsylvania has a similar problem and they too do not use 123.025 regularly.)
The pilots present suggested that there be a pilots meeting at the September meeting. It was suggested the meeting start before or in conjunction with the safety committee.
Discussion about a survival training day for air medical services. Will plan on having some training at 2006 Kentucky EMS Conference (see general membership notes for details).
Also had very brief discussions concerning night vision goggles, a regional dispatch center and designated LZ’s in Eastern Kentucky.
Will start planning on survival training classes for the 2006 Kentucky EMS Conference / Air Medical tracts.
Copies of recent articles from CNN and USAToday (air ambulance safety) were distributed to the members.
No other discussion noted.
Meeting adjourned at 1915.
Respectfully submitted,
Beverly Ford
Interim Secretary
