The
idea for the Air Medical Memorial Wings originated in January 1998
during a discussion between Cathy Spry, Flight nurse, STATCARE,
Louisville, KY and Martin Nethery, Flight nurse, Careflight, Lexington,
KY following an air medical accident. The wings were designed as a
tribute to our colleagues that have died as a result of an air medical
accident. Through the sponsorship of the Kentucky Chapter of AAMS, the
wings were produced in June 1998.
Similar to the way that police and firefighters wear a black band or
strip across their badges for a fallen comrade, the memorial wings are
intended to show respect and honor for our air medical colleagues. The
pin can be worn on any type of uniform or flight suit following an
accident.
The Air Medical Memorial Wings© continues to provide a set of pins to a
flight service where an accident occurs in memory of those crewmembers.
Additional pins can be obtained from the Air Medical Memorial Wings
using the order form below.
The cost of the Memorial Wings pin is $10.00 (effective July 1, 2002),
which includes shipping. $1.00 of this is donated to the ASTNA
Bereavement Fund.
Please make checks payable to "Air Medical Memorial Wings".
On behalf of the Air Medical Memorial Wings and Kentucky Chapter of AAMS,
we extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to all of the services—and
their families—that have suffered injury or loss of life. Thank you for
your support of this memorial honoring our colleagues.
